7 reasons why strength training is important for young girls

February 27, 2018

I am so fortunate to work at a gym that caters to the youth population. I have helped youth athletes, both male and female, get stronger, faster, and better for their sports and it is a true pleasure watching them excel. We have athletes come to us from all across the spectrum. Some are superstars and naturally athletic while others are more reserved and need a little extra practice learning and mastering skills. Both girls and boys, alike, share these qualities, but a large majority of our girls are on the latter end of the spectrum.

For so long our society has told girls (and women) that sports just aren’t for them. That muscles and sweat and getting dirty and bruised from hard work are better reserved for the boys (and men). So it is especially gratifying to watch these young girls crush previously held stereotypes and to watch them realize how important it is to strength train—not only for their sport but also for every aspect of their life.

Here are 7 reasons why strength training is important for young girls.
